CALI ARNE FAQ

What is a Cali dial?

The California dial, or “Cali dial”, is instantly recognisable for its distinctive mix of Roman numerals on the upper half of the dial and Arabic numerals on the lower half.

The original design dates back to the 1930s and 1940s, when watches supplied to the military by makers such as Rolex and Panerai used this highly legible dial layout to help reduce reading errors in difficult conditions.

The name “California dial” became popular in the 1970s and 1980s, thanks to an LA dial refinishing company that restored the iconic “Error Proof” Rolex dials. The style soon became a sought-after modification, with watch enthusiasts and dealers across California sending their watches in. The nickname stuck, and eventually became an industry standard.

Is this watch collection unisex?

Yes. At 40mm, the Chromatic Collection is sized to suit any wrist. Its clean, colourful design makes it easy to wear whether you're heading into the office, the outdoors, or anywhere in between.

What movement do the Cali Arnes use?

This collection is powered by a Swiss Ronda 713 quartz movement, chosen for its reliability, precision, and low maintenance.

How tough is it? Can I wear it outdoors?

Absolutely. Like all Elliot Brown watches, this collection is built for real-world use. It features a domed triple-sealed, screw in crowns and a 200m water resistance rating. Ideal for everyday adventures.
