When we think of vintage dive watches, we can go one of two ways, vibrant brights or classic hues of piano black, polished steel and tan. This '105 sits firmly in the tan and black camp with such effortless style.
The Bloxworth ‘105 has vintage character running through its veins. It starts with the precise brushed and polished surfaces of the 40mm stainless case, perfectly melding into one another with hints of high polish that set off against finely brushed and matt vapour blasted finishes.
Take the coin edged bezel with matt, vertical high grip splines that protrude just enough for perfect, secure grip, then transition into a highly polished chamfer framing the scratch resistant, lozenge smooth ceramic bezel insert.
There’s a sapphire ‘box’ domed crystal with hints of bluey purple thanks to it’s fine anti reflective inner coating. Sitting beneath lies a dual layer ‘sandwich’ dial with bold, soft tan luminous markers and matching pale sand colour infill on the square profile hands, framed in matt gunmetal with a bright orange tip adding a sporting contrast to the seconds hand. The recessed inner dial is finished with a sunray brushed surface that reflects light very differently to the gloss piano black upper layer with railway track outer minutes markings.
A fitted dark brown matt leather strap absorbs the light into its richly coloured knapped surface. Over time it develops a character all of its own as the knap slowly wears into smooth dark brown leather, perfectly complementing the black and tan layered dial.
The polished details continue with pebble-like case shoulders and the domed screw-down crown with high grip splines. Positioned at 4H to keep it out of harms way whilst avoiding any wrist pressure, the crown is recessed into the case with three seals working together to prevent water ingress. Every Bloxworth 3HD is tested at 200m in water so you never need to worry.
With quick change solid strap bars, a strap swap is the work of only a few moments and this model also works beautifully with a B07 steel bracelet, black rubber and black/brown heritage webbing.
Much like a metal bracelet that starts off at its longest, your rubber strap starts long and is designed to be adjusted to fit.
Allow yourself plenty of time, and try your watch and strap on your wrist before you start cutting to work out how much to shorten the strap by.
Having looked at the strap length on your wrist, if you need to shorten the strap, take the watch off, place it on a soft surface and remove one strap end from the buckle using the pointed tool (included) to push into the holes in the sides of the buckle to release the spring bar. Be careful not to lose the spring bar.
With a sharp knife or scissors, carefully cut just one section from the free end, cutting neatly and carefully along the centre of the first guide groove on the inner surface of the strap at the end nearest the buckle. Don't be tempted to cut two sections at once.
Now refit the strap end back into the buckle depressing the spring bar to locate into the hole position nearest the centre join of the buckle. Use your fingernail or a spring bar tool if you have one.
Now try the strap on your wrist again - it’s surprising how much removing just one rubber section changes the size.
If the strap still needs to be smaller, repeat the above steps, alternating which side you cut down until the strap is the perfect length.
Each time, re-attach the strap using the holes nearest the centre of the buckle so you can always increase the size a little just in case.
The attachment holes in the buckle are half the length of the strap sections so if you end up a tad too tight or a tad too loose, adjust which set of holes the strap attaches to in the buckle until it’s perfect.
It pays to be patient so you don't end up cutting your strap too short. Remember as your body temperature increases, your wrist size will increase too.
